1. What is the Snow Removal Program in the Town of Coaldale?
The Snow Removal Program is a service provided by the Town of Coaldale to ensure the safe and efficient removal of snow and ice from public roads, sidewalks, and other public areas during the winter season.
2. When does the Snow Removal Program begin and end?
The Snow Removal Program typically starts when snow accumulation reaches the 10cm threshold or when icy conditions pose a hazard. The program includes snow removal during large events, sanding in intersections and plowing during and after snow events. If a “Snow Event” is declared it will last up to 72 hours, this classification means that all on street parking is prohibited on Priority 1 snow routes.
3. Who is responsible for snow removal in the Town of Coaldale?
The Town of Coaldale’s Public Works Departments is responsible to respond during and after snow events. The Town also utilizes contracted services to scale the service level depending on the amount of accumulated snow through a contract that is Tendered every three years.

The frequency of snow removal depends on various factors, including the severity of the snowfall, forecasts and the resources available. However, the Town of Coaldale aims to clear major roads and sidewalks promptly to ensure safe travel for residents.

Priority routes as defined by the Sanding and Snow removal Policy MSOD-003 and the Snow removal Priority Map are cleared in order and depending on weather conditions, snow accumulation and forecasts not all routes are completed each event.

It is advisable to regularly check these sources for the most up-to-date information. If these are not available you can contact the Town office and we can provide that information.

Yes, residents can report snow removal issues or request assistance for specific areas by contacting the Town of Coaldale's main office. The Town's staff will address the concern as soon as possible.
8. Are there any specific guidelines for residents during the Snow Removal Program?
Residents are encouraged to follow certain guidelines during the Snow Removal Program, such as clearing snow from their own driveways and sidewalks adjacent to their properties. It is against the Town’s Traffic Safety Act Bylaw 843-R-03-22 to push snow into the streets from a resident’s property or sidewalk. It is also advisable to use caution while driving or walking on cleared roads and sidewalks, as they may still be slippery in icy conditions. If you use rubber ramps for your driveway these must be removed by October 31, metal ramps are not allowed anytime of the year.
